Measures how often a leader feels that he/she exhibits a full range of
specific leadership behaviors (actual) compared with how often he/she would
like to be exhibiting those behaviors (ought). The MLQ (Actual/Ought) Self-Rating Report (MLQAO) is a useful tool
for educational purposes. It promotes understanding of how closely an
individual's perception of their own leadership aligns with the Full
Range Leadership Model; so it helps to tune up their own
thinking and beliefs about what is effective leadership and management
in terms of this model. Since the MLQAO does not measure leadership (it measures self-perception), it is not appropriate for leadership assessment purposes or in any way to replace the multirater MLQ
360 Leader's Report. Included with the MLQAO is a pdf file of the Leader's Workbook (a $25 value).
More information about self vs multirater
leadership assessment is on the FAQ page.
