Correctional Institutions Environment Scale

Author: Rudolf Moos

The Correctional Institutions Environment Scale (CIES) measures the social climate of juvenile and adult correctional programs. As one of the Social Climate Scales, the CIES helps correctional staff to articulate their concerns and to develop a cognitive framework for understanding programs. It provides accurate information about perceptions of different programs, and it encourages staff to become involved in program planning and design. Scales measured include: involvement, support, expressiveness, autonomy, practical orientation, personal problem orientation, order and organization, clarity, and staff control.
